Unitised blending discs are non-woven, unitary abrasive discs designed for surface blending, deburring and fine finishing on metal, stainless steel and painted surfaces. Their primary use is to remove weld scale, smooth grinding marks and produce a consistent satin finish without deep scratch patterns, making them ideal for final preparation prior to polishing or coating.

These discs are manufactured with a choice of abrasive grains — aluminium oxide, zirconia alumina or ceramic alumina — bonded into a non-woven, open-structure fibre matrix using a thermosetting resin. Typical grit grades follow FEPA P-ranges (P40–P240) to provide a predictable progression from aggressive stock removal to fine blend and finish. The unitised construction means the abrasive particles and fibre backing are formed as a single bonded unit, giving even wear, consistent cut and long life. Unitised blending discs are produced to industry safety and quality expectations and are compatible with EN/ISO standards for abrasive products where applicable (for example FEPA/ISO grit grading and general safety requirements under EN 12413 for bonded abrasive wheels).

Unitised blending discs are used widely in welding and fabrication shops, stainless steel processing, automotive repair and restoration, shipbuilding, rail engineering, food processing plant maintenance and general metalworking. Their open, non-loading structure reduces heat build-up and contamination, so stainless components retain corrosion resistance and are less prone to surface discolouration. The discs are suitable for use on portable angle grinders and finishing tools (observe the tool’s RPM limits and the disc’s maximum operating speed), and are particularly useful where a consistent satin finish is required without subsequent hand sanding.

Key benefits include controlled stock removal with minimal gouging, prolonged life compared with conventional fibre or flap products, compatibility with a range of substrates and reduced risk of contamination on stainless steels. Selection of grain type and grit allows tailoring from heavy weld blending to fine surface refinement.

Duchy Fasteners stocks a broad range of unitised blending discs in common diameters (for example 75mm, 100mm, 115mm, 125mm and 150mm), a range of FEPA P-grits and pack sizes from small multi-packs to trade cartons. Contact us for specific material, grit and packaging options.
