The 1/2" UNC HSS dienut is a compact external threading tool used to cut or restore 1/2"-13 UNC external threads on bolts, studs and shafts without the need for a full round die and die-stock. Its primary use is hand or light-machine thread repair and finishing where access is limited or a small, nut-shaped form factor is preferred.

Manufactured from M2 high-speed steel (HSS) and heat-treated for cutting durability, this dienut has a bright-ground cutting face with a light oiled finish to inhibit surface corrosion in storage. The thread form is Unified Coarse (UNC), 1/2" diameter with 13 tpi (threads per inch), following the 60° unified thread profile. The die geometry is produced to be compatible with the Unified inch thread form as defined by ASME/ANSI B1.1 and is suitable for use with workshop tooling that adheres to common DIN/ISO/BS inch-thread tolerances.

The dienut features a chamfered lead to assist with easy engagement and start of the cut and a full-profile cutting land to re-establish worn or damaged threads. It is intended for manual use on a short stud or for light machining operations; it is compatible with standard die holders and can be run slowly in a lathe or die stock where appropriate. As an HSS tool it will perform well on mild and medium carbon steels, alloy steels and many stainless steels when used with suitable cutting lubricant and correct technique.
