This product is a 140 mm overall length wood chisel with a 10 mm cutting width, designed for paring, trimming and detail work in woodworking. The Draper Tools Group D 140 mm x 10 mm Spring Grip Poundthru Bright Edge Wood Chisel is intended for use where a compact chisel is required: cleaning out joints, cutting mortices, trimming tenons and general bench and on-site carpentry tasks.

The blade is manufactured from chrome-vanadium (Cr-V) alloy steel that has been heat-treated and tempered for improved toughness and edge retention. The cutting bevel is factory-ground to a suitable woodworking angle (approximately 25°) and finished to a bright, polished edge to aid initial sharpness and reduce sticking in timber. The handle is a spring-grip, overmoulded design with an internal steel tang and pound-through construction, allowing controlled striking with a mallet without splitting the handle. Thread type, head type and drive type are not applicable to this hand tool.

The chisel is produced in accordance with recognised hand-tool manufacturing standards and to comparable BS, DIN and ISO expectations for dimension, strength and safety in workshop tools. The blade hardness is selected to balance hardness and toughness for timber work; the Cr-V construction gives good resistance to edge roll while remaining serviceable for re-sharpening. The bright finish on the cutting face gives some additional resistance to surface corrosion in workshop environments; routine maintenance such as light oiling after use will extend service life.

This size is particularly useful for fine trimming around mouldings, hinge recesses and small mortice work in soft and hardwoods.
