This Plastic Handle Pointed Awl is a hand tool for marking, scribing and starting holes in wood, plastics, leather and soft sheet materials. Its primary use is to create an accurate pilot mark or starter hole so screws, nails and drill bits can be located without wandering; it is also used for scoring and aligning components during assembly. The tool combines a hardened steel shank with a moulded nylon handle to give a durable, comfortable implement for workshop and on-site use.

The shaft is manufactured from hardened carbon steel and tempered to provide good tip retention and bending resistance; the point is ground to a sharp conical profile. The steel shank has a protective bright zinc finish to improve corrosion resistance in normal workshop environments. The handle is moulded from glass-filled nylon (PA66), chosen for impact resistance and a non-conductive surface. This product is not VDE insulated and is not certified to BS EN 60900 for live electrical work, so it should not be used on exposed live conductors.

As a simple hand awl there are no threads, drive or head types to specify, but the ergonomic handle head allows controlled thumb pressure and the round tang helps prevent rotation in the hand.
