This is a 3 mm right‑hand HSS split die designed for cutting or re‑cutting external metric threads (M3 x 0.50) on bar, rod or stud. Its primary use is producing accurate external threads in manual or light machine operations, and the split design gives a small degree of adjustment so the user can tighten or relax the profile to suit the workpiece or to clean up damaged threads.

The die is ground from M2 high speed steel (HSS) to retain cutting edge hardness and heat resistance. It is supplied with a bright, ground finish and a light protective oil coating to limit corrosion during storage. The tooling conforms to the ISO metric thread form (ISO 68‑1) and is compatible with the ISO 261/262 standard pitch series; manufacture and tolerances follow recognised metric thread practice such as DIN 13 and ISO 965 where applicable. This is a right‑hand (RH) thread tool intended for external threads and incorporates the standard circular split die form with an adjustment/locking screw so it can be used in a compatible die holder or stock. For machine use a suitable die head or holder should be used, while hand work is normally performed with a T‑handle die stock.

Typical applications include small component manufacture, electrical and electronics assembly, instrument making, maintenance and repair work, model engineering and general mechanical workshops. The die cuts conventional M3 coarse metric threads commonly found on fasteners, small assemblies and prototypes.
